Romola Garai Circling "One Day"

The Hollywood Reporter has said that Romola Garai is in negotiations to join the cast of Focus Features' romantic comedy One Day for director Lone Scherfig. Production begins in the summer in London.

Day stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess as people who meet during their 1988 graduation and proceed to meet one day a year for the next 20 years. In "When Harry Met Sally ..." fashion, the story tracks their lives and loves until they realize they were meant for each other.

The British-born Garai will play the woman Sturgess' character marries then ultimately divorces during those years.

The project is based on a novel by British author David Nicholls, who adapted the screenplay. Nina Jacobson is producing via her Color Force banner with Random House Films.

Garai, repped by UTA and ARG in the U.K., most recently played the title role in the BBC miniseries "Emma." Other film credits include "Atonement" and "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights."

Tonight in New York, Anne Hathaway, among a bevy of celebrities attended the American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity aka Metropolitan Museum Of Art's 2010 Costume Institute Ball.

Anne looks spectacular, my favorite of the evening so far. She wore a Valentino Pre-Fall 2010 gown which sparkled as she glided down the red carpet. The nude embroidered tulle gown has been modified to a strapless gown.

ComingSoon.net got a chance to talk exclusively to Diary of a Wimpy Kid producer Nina Jacobson on Wednesday and she told us more about her upcoming projects.

Jacobson revealed to us that she's producing an adaptation of author David Nicholls' One Day, to be directed by Lone Scherfig (An Education). "That is supposed to go this summer in London with Lone Scherfig directing and Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess," she said, adding that the deals aren't closed but that the two stars are both attached. "Their deals are being negotiated right now."

The Focus Features romantic comedy centers on Dexter and Emma, who first meet during their graduation in 1988 and proceed to reunite one day each year for the next 20 years.

As a fan of both of these two actors, I'd love to see them work together!

Alice in Wonderland Opens to Massive $210.3M Worldwide

The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Click here for the full box office estimates of the top 12 films and then check back on Monday for the final figures based on actual box office.

Walt Disney Pictures' Alice in Wonderland took over the worldwide box office this weekend, earning $116.3 million domestically and $94 million overseas for three-day total of $210.3 million! The domestic figure from 3,728 theaters marks the sixth-biggest opening weekend of all time and is a new record for a film opening in March, destroying the $70.9 million that 300 made in 2007. It's the biggest opening ever for Tim Burton (his previous top opener was Planet of the Apes' $68.5 million), the biggest non-sequel release of all time, and the biggest 3D release ever, besting the $77 million that Avatar earned in December. Alice is also the largest debut ever for a winter release, surpassing The Passion of The Christ ($83.8 million).

Alice took over the top spot in foreign markets from Avatar, which had been No. 1 for 11 consecutive weeks. Overseas, the film debuted at 5,600 theaters in 41 markets, which represents only about 60% of the international market. The $94 million marks the biggest international opening weekend ever for a movie released in the January-April period.

Alice in Wonderland also broke Avatar's previous IMAX record of $9.5 million by earning $11.9 million on 188 of the large format screens - that's an average of $64,197 per site!

Directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover, Matt Lucas, Mia Wasikowska, Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall, Christopher Lee, Paul Whitehouse and Barbara Windsor, the fantasy-adventure was made for about $200 million.

Actress Anne Hathaway is a sweetheart -- in most of her roles, anyway.

From her first big role as a nice teenager in The Princess Diaries to playing an ingénue in the backbiting fashion film Devil Wears Prada, Hathaway knows how to play the good girl.

In recent years, the Academy Award nominated actress has shown her versatility in a variety of different roles, but she's back to being "good."

Early Show Special Correspondent and British TV personality Amanda Holden recently sat down with the star to discuss her career and latest role as the Good White Queen in "Alice in Wonderland."

Holden asked Hathaway, "Is it a stretch to have so much goodness in all the roles you play?"

Hathaway laughed and said, "Most people ask that about the bad characters -- that's a stretch. Thank you. Terrible stretch -- I am actually an awful person if you can't tell. Yes, you know I wear white to distract -"

Holden interjected, "And you took the wings off at the door didn't you?"

"Yes, well I had to put them somewhere," Hathaway joked. "This chair is very, very, tiny. It's constantly a problem."

She continued, "You know all the characters (I play) are a stretch. I have yet to find a character that is kind of like me."

In Alice, Hathaway spends most of her time fighting the evil forces of her sister, the Red Queen of Hearts, played by Helena Bonham Carter.

One of the most noticeable changes for the role is Hathaway's makeup in the film.

Holden remarked, "The makeup is unbelievable. In Alice you have very sort of dark eyebrows and black lips. How much input did you have in your makeup and look? And you look a bit Veronica Lake with your hair. Did you create all that was that something you discussed?

Hathaway said she didn't offer her input, she just wanted director, Tim Burton's team to take over.

"I figured these were the people so many of the looks I'd loved in his films, so I just kinda wanted them to work their magic on me," she said.

And what's her verdict on the look?

She told Holden, "I was so happy because when they showed me what I looked like I was like gasp I look like the Corpse Bride!"

"I was so thrilled every day to be made in to a Tim Burton heroine," Hathaway said. "It just was a dream come true."

In the role, Hathaway seems to float along -- like she has no legs. Hathaway said the movement was her idea.

She explained, "That was actually born from my absolute joy and enthusiasm of wearing the costume. Because I put it on and I was just kind of prancing about my room and all the sudden I caught a glimpse of the costume in the full-length mirror and I realized that if I walked with very small steps that it didn't look like I was walking at all. It looked like I was gliding."

Then it hit her: "Oh my God," she said, "This is a world without rules -- gravity maybe doesn't apply to her as much."

Hathaway said she was nervous to roll out her character's gliding movements, not telling Burton prior to her first take.

"I didn't have a plan 'B,'" Hathaway said. "And so then, when he said he really liked it, I was just kind of overjoyed and then we were off and running, or floating as it were."

Hathaway performed most of the film's action against a green screen. The exotic lushness of Wonderland was colored in by computer after the movie action was filmed.

Hathaway said she "steeled herself" for working on the green screen set.

"I was like, 'So all right, this is perfect and I'm going to hold a football, and it's going to be a blood hound -- and I'd buy it!"

Holden quipped, "This is when drama school comes in handy."

But Hathaway said she was "pretty gung-ho" about the entire shoot.

But what about the madness in the film -- does Hathaway think the best people are mad?

She told Holden, "I've got to say, I trust people when they have a bit of madness in them. And it's kind of that wonderful Mae West quote, 'If you don't have something nice to say, come sit by me.' If you're a little mad, come sit by me.'"

Alice in Wonderland opens worldwide on Friday.

There have been some early screenings for Anne's next film Love and Other Drugs and some viewers have been leaving their comments on the film's IMDb forum.

Hollywood Elsewhere had this snippet from a review that particularly praises Annie. Saying she looks like the first major Oscar contender for next year! Wow. Love and Other Drugs sees Hathaway reuniting with her Brokeback Mountain co-star Jake Gyllenhaal. I personally can't wait to see this!

Hathaway's Love and Other Drugs performance, in short, sounds like the first strong contender for a 2010 Best Actress Oscar.

"Anne Hathaway burns up the screen, and not just because she's naked half the time. Even when she's dressed you simply can't take your eyes off her. I thought she was good in Rachel Getting Married, but in this one -- as a free-spirit arty girl with early-onset Parkinson's -- she's very funny and really hard-core. My guess is another nomination will be coming her way.

Anne Hathaway thinks she is lucky to have landed so many big movie roles.

The 27-year-old actress believes she has been fortunate to land so many big roles, but admits she has often found herself out of her depth when working with big Hollywood names.

She said: "I owe so much of my career to luck. My mother always told me that luck is preparation meets opportunity and I've been given extraordinary opportunities to work with filmmakers long before I was talented enough and deserved to work with them. I've learned a lot from them. I just keep getting hired. I consider myself lucky and I don't know who is responsible for it."

Anne's latest role is as the White Queen in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and she admits 'living' in the fantastical world appealed to her.

She said: "I'd be happy to live in a world with no rules and where people are curious."

While she is one of the world's highest-grossing actresses, Anne recently admitted she doesn't have much confidence when it comes to "full-on movie kissing".

She said: "You have to understand. There's a technique for pretty movie kissing. There's also full-on movie kissing - a totally different experience. But really, you have to be like Angelina Jolie to pull that off and still look good.

"I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm no Angie."

Anne Hathaway Feels Like She's In A "Glorified Acting Program

The Hollywood actress has starred in a string of box office smashes, including The Devil Wears Prada, Brokeback Mountain and Bride Wars.

She can soon be seen in Tim Burton’s new movie Alice in Wonderland, but admits she still feels like she’s learning the craft.

“Right now, I just feel like I’m in a glorified acting program,” she explained. “I get to learn drama from Meryl Streep, then I get to turn around and learn comedy from Steve Carrell. It’s kind of insane. Acting really, really is the only thing I’m interested in doing. Even if i was acting in a church basement theatre for the rest of my life, I would enjoy it.”

Anne never expected to be so successful, revealing she thought she would spend her days acting for fun while she earned money waiting tables at cafes.

She keeps grounded by spending as much time as possible with her friends, and still hangs out with people she met at college. They rarely go to nightclubs together, preferring to spend time in grubby bars or at each other’s houses.

“We either go to a dive bar and listen to classic rock, or we go to my friend’s house, who has a great stereo system, and do various iPod shuffles so we can get up and dance and drink wine,” she told Look magazine. “It’s down to earth, kooky and fun!”

"Alice In Wonderland" Royal World Premiere

As previously reported, tonight was the Royal premiere of Anne Hathaway's latest film Alice In Wonderland (which hits theatres next Friday). The event was held at Odeon Leicester Square in London.

Anne looked gorgeous in a sparkling brown dress created by Vivienne Westwood, one of England's most iconic designers. I'm personally a bit iffy on the overall look of her dress. I don't hate it, but I'm underwhelmed. Especially for such a prestigious premiere. I've added a couple of shots below the cut.

The first of the clips features The White Queen in a scene with Alice. I decided to only watch it, and I have to say I'm even more excited to see Miss Anne's portrayal of this character. Looks like she had a lot of fun with the movie!

Was Anne Hathaway Really Up For A "Spider Man 4" Role?

When it comes to the Spider-Man movie franchise these days, it seems like there are far more questions that answers. Are all these casting rumors accurate? Will the king of 3-D, James Cameron, have any influence on how Marc Webb tackles the gig? And did Sam Raimi ever get close enough to rolling cameras that there were concrete plans for the supporting characters ?

Over the years, we’ve spoken with Anne Hathaway many times and always found her to be exactly as you’d expect: Sweet, polite and never one to speak out of school. And when it came time to speak with her last week for the upcoming release of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland re-imagining, we remembered that it was our first time talking with the actress since Raimi’s Spider Man 4 plans fell apart. So, it seemed reasonable that Hathaway might finally be willing to reveal how truthful those rumors were about her having a role in the now-canceled film.

Hathaway gave us a statement that reminded us of that earlier fact about her: She’s sweet, polite and never one to speak out of school.

“I don’t know how to answer that, because it’s not really happening anymore,” Anne said of those pesky rumors that she was once being considered to play Black Cat, an undetermined love interest, or anybody else.

“So,” Hathaway added diplomatically, “it’s best to leave in the past.”

There you go, Spidey fans. At this point, you have two choices of how you could look at Anne’s response:

1) Take the high road — Clearly, this is a nice girl who doesn’t want to rock the boat. Let’s admire her prudence, move on with our lives, and look forward to Webb’s Spider Man.

2) Be suspicious — If she had never been approached to be in Raimi’s Spider-Man, why would she have anything to hide? She’d likely just say “No, that was Internet nonsense” and then no one would ever ask her about it again, right? Oh, that sneaky Hathaway and her princess diaries!

MoviesOnline sat down with Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Michael Sheen to talk about their new movie, Alice in Wonderland. Directed by Tim Burton, the epic 3D fantasy adventure is based on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” originally published in 1865 which changed forever the course of children’s literature.

Helena Bonham Carter plays Iracebeth, The Red Queen and tyrannical monarch of Underland, an amalgam of the Queen of Hearts from “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and the Red Queen from “Through the Looking-Glass.” With her oversized head, fiery temper and propensity to scream for people’s heads to be chopped off, she rules her subjects through fear. “She’s got emotional problems,” says Bonham Carter. “It takes nothing, practically, for her to lose her temper. Her tantrums are that of a two-year-old.”

Anne Hathaway plays Mirana, The White Queen, and younger sister of the Red Queen, who has designs on the throne and crown that Iracebeth once stole from her. While she appears to be all sweetness and light, beneath the surface there’s a hint of darkness to her character. “She comes from the same gene pool as the Red Queen,” says Hathaway. “She really likes the dark side, but she’s so scared of going too far into it that she’s made everything appear very light and happy. But she’s living in that place out of fear that she won’t be able to control herself.” When Alice returns to Underland, the WhiteQueen takes her under her wing, offering her protection, although her motives aren’t completely altruistic.

Michael Sheen voices the character of McTwisp, The White Rabbit, who is always worried about being late, always in a hurry, always rushing about. Charged with finding Alice and bringing her back to Underland so that she can fulfill her destiny, he shows up at her garden party in an effort to lure her back down the rabbit hole. “He’s a warm character,” says Sheen, “but, at the same time, he can be quite fussy and quite strict with Alice as well. He has an edge to him, a nervous energy, always feeling like he’s behind time, time is very important to him. But he’s quite brave when called upon.”

Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Michael Sheen talked to us about their roles, what it was like to play such wildly imaginative and iconic characters, and the challenge of acting in front of a green screen in a film that was shot almost entirely in a virtual environment.

Q: Helena, that was a terrific performance. I hope that doesn’t make your head bigger when I say that.

HELENA: Thank you. I wanted to do it. That’s why Tim gave me the job. I’m one of the few actresses that can blow up their head.

Q: Can you talk about the challenge of acting in front of a green screen?

HELENA: It was all green. When you’re acting, you have to kind of imagine anyway. The unsung heroes of it are these various green people that gave us their lines off. We had real proper actors who would dress in leotards and didn’t look that good at their best. For instance, I’ve only met Michael Sheen in the last 12 hours. I met him the night before but he wasn’t there [when I was filming]. I just had a 12-inch drawing of a rabbit. But then, behind him, was thisgreen screen, green actor. That’s what we had to act opposite.

MICHAEL: It’s because I don’t like being around other actors. It’s in my contract.

HELENA: I would’ve appreciated if you had come in your bunny outfit once. But he didn’t.

MICHAEL: I used to stand outside. You didn’t see. I was outside the studio with my nose up against the glass in a rabbit costume going “Please let me in, Helena. Please.”

HELENA: I wish. But it was no, no, he only acts by himself. And then, Matt (Lucas) had to be always hunched over or on the floor to give lines. Whenever I’d look at Matt, he was always in deep discomfort because he had to try and make himself smaller. This actress (referring to Anne) is the one who does her own special effects, but she didn’t have anything special done to her. She does her own gliding. Crispin, I don’t know how he did it. He was on crutches and had no eye and somehow managed to remain upright. I don’t know how he did that. We all have to act opposite tennis balls and bits of tape, but you do that anyway. And actually, tennis balls and bits of tape can be good actors. You know, they’re minimal.

Q: Anne, what was it like to play the opposite of Helena’s character?

ANNE: I’m so much more interested in what Helena has to say about it. One of the most fun parts about my character was this freedom that Tim gave me from the first conversation we had. He said, “In Wonderland, I don’t want anything to be all good or all bad, so I don’t want it to be the RedQueen is the bad one and you’re like the nice benevolent one who’s all good.” He said, “Have fun exploring the relationship between the two of them. They come from the same place.” I thought, oh how fun if my character has a sort of hidden psychosis.

HELENA: It’s not that hidden.

ANNE: Now it’s not. [Laughs] She’s dangerous and is interested in knives and things like that and is kind of adorable on the outside and has tried very hard to become this good, almost over the top, positive creature. But underneath, she has a murderous streak that comes out when she’s around weaponry. So, it wasn’t necessarily that they were opposites. They were just sisters who were different.

MICHAEL: I watched it for the first time the other night and the thing that struck me the most was the thing I liked most about the RedQueen [which] was her vulnerability, and the thing I liked most about the White Queen was how sinister she was. That worked brilliantly for me. It’s tragic when she says, “It is better to be feared than loved.” That’s a tragic line really. It’s beautiful. In my case, I thought it was better to be furred than loved and I slightly misheard it.

Q: Michael, being just a voice in the film, were you ever jealous that you couldn’t actually be there on set?

MICHAEL: I would have given anything, literally, to put the ears and the tail on, and jump around.

HELENA: You can still do it.

MICHAEL: I do. I would have loved to have done that. One of the things I loved about the film most is that the animals really do look like animals. They’re not humanized, in any way. When a horse suddenly turns around to the Knave of Hearts and says something disparaging about dogs, you really don’t expect it. It’s really effective. So, I can understand exactly why they went with the idea of really going for the animal thing. But, I still look very cute with a little bunny nose, so maybe I can be in there, if there’s a sequel or something. So, I did a couple of sessions with Tim, and just had him all to myself, in London and in America. I was filmed with just a basic camera, so when I saw it, I was amazed at how much all my hand movements were there. Tim said, “Really perform it. Don’t just do the voice. Move and do as much performing as you can. Twitch your nose as much as you can.” So, I really recognized my hands. It was really funny. I didn’t think I’d recognize any of that. See, I lived with rabbits for 6 months beforehand and I did a lot of yoga to build up my legs so I could get my leg up and scratch my ear like a bunny.

Q: Helena, you spent hours in the makeup chair each day, what was the challenge?

HELENA: Speak to my husband. It wasn’t that long. I just said hours for the sympathy effect, but it was only 2-1/2 hours. I did exaggerate it, I guess. They had to get rid of my hairline so you put a bald cap on. That takes about 2-1/2 hours and then they have to paint it and then they put my beauty makeup on. That took some time. And, my huge wig. But they didn’t blow my head up every morning. They did that on camera. I had this one camera. There are two cameras in the world that do this and they just blow your head up. That’s all it does. And I had this huge camera dedicated to me, which was fine by me.

MICHAEL: Was it called bon cam?

HELENA: [Laughs] Bonnie cam. He likes to put makeup on me. He likes to deform me. I love it that he likes to. I always like looking as different as I can.

Q: What was your first experience with Alice in Wonderland, growing up?

ANNE: When I was in 5th grade, I had a teacher and he made the entire class memorize Jabberwocky and perform it. So, during the battle sequence, I made Tim let me recite the poem and he literally looked at me and said, “Well it’s not going to be in the film.” And I said, “I know, but just for my own sense of completion in my life, please let me do this.” [Laughs] I didn’t read Alice until I was in college. I was reading a lot of (Vladimir) Nabokov and actually one of his big inspirations was Lewis Carroll, so I thought before I get too deep into him I’ll read Lewis Carroll, then I never went back to Nabokov. That’s when I read it and I was really moved by it. She’s a very emotional character and a lot of people feel a kind of confused 19. [It’s about] who they think they are vs. who they want to be. You struggle with a sense of identity then and at other times in your life. I really read the book from that perspective as a girl who’s trying to find her identity, which is great because that’s what the movie really focuses on. Which Alice are you? So, that was my experience.

MICHAEL: As most people, I think I knew the characters before I ever read the book. They’re just ingrained into the Western consciousness. For me, the allure of the story is that we all live in this illusion that we’re civilized and that everything makes sense and everything has a place, and Alice in Wonderland shows you that actually it’s a very thin film between sanity and insanity, and total wildness, chaos and fear. Somehow, that seems to be the most true expression of what it’s like to be a child, where things are both familiar and strange, at the same time, and when you think you know what something is, it suddenly shifts and becomes something else. We grow up and forget the truth of that, or buy into the illusion that that’s not the case. We’re drawn back to Alice in Wonderland all the time because it somehow reminds us, as all great Greek drama does, of what the actual truth about life is.

Q: Helena, what do you think is an appropriate age for children to see this film?

HELENA: Tim always has this theory that it’s us that have got the problem, that we impose fears on our kids and the kids are actually quite robust. But it depends on your kid. We haven’t shown it to Billy yet just because it wasn’t finished until a few days ago. I don’t know. You know, there was that 3D thing. We were trying to find a nursery school for our son, Bill. Apparently, according to the Montessori method, they can’t tell the difference between reality and fantasy until age 6. They had recommended no fairytales so that’s why we didn’t send Bill to Montessori because having Tim Burton and fairytales and his world of ideas. Oh! Okay!

MICHAEL: I still have difficulty with that. Someone told me once, and I don’t know if it’s true, that there’s a part of our brain that, when we’re acting and something traumatic is going on, believes that it is actually true. So, part of us is traumatized from it, as actors, which probably explains why actors are the way they are.

HELENA: We’re fucked up.

MICHAEL: Other actors, not me. That’s why I don’t like to act with other actors. [Laughs]

Q: Anne, your character reminds me of a punk rock vegan passivist. Why is that?

ANNE: The passivist thing was in the script. My character has taken a vow of non-violence. But, it was also in the script that when she talks about that, she hits a bug and enjoys killing it. So, I thought about it. That kind of gave me the idea that she’s taken this vow against her will, that she recognizes that her sister is sick and believes that a means to an end is cutting people’s heads off, and it’s kind of her default setting. I’m like I don’t want her to be in charge so I guess I have to be in charge. But, I like the idea that my character probably, left to her own devices, might not have wanted to be Queen. Then I started to think about who she was in her ‘off-Queen’ time and I realized she spends a lot of time in the kitchen and there’s the non-violence thing and her being a vegan, and then I just imagined her in mosh pits – not really punching anyone but really butting against people very hard.

Q: You said you were inspired by Blondie and Greta Garbo, can you talk about that?

ANNE: I like Blondie so I thought, you know, she’s blonde so that was kind of obvious. But I still wanted her to have a regal thing so I watched…there’s a Greta Garbo movie. I watched a lot of her silent films because I still think no one has ever quite moved on film the way she did. Her whole body just looks like it’s breathing and it was a time where acting was very stylized to be very over the top and she’s utterly real in it. I don’t remember. I think it’s called The Loose Woman or The Temptress (she means The Flesh and The Devil). She arrives on a train and she’s beautiful.

Q: How do you feel about being CGI’d or do you prefer playing a real person?

ANNE: Honestly, I would do anything if Tim asked. I’m fond of saying that I would have played a mushroom in this if that’s the way he saw me in it. So, I would have happily donned my green onesie and been up in stilts. I would have just done anything to be in Wonderland. But, it’s nice to be a real person as well. I have no preference. I’m sorry, I don’t.

Q: Helena, what was your family’s reaction when they first saw you as the character in full makeup and costume?

HELENA: Well my little daughter, who was only 1, just said “Mommy!” It was bizarre. But my son is slightly frailer or sensitive. He just didn’t want to look at me.

Q: Michael, what does your daughter think of you being the White Rabbit?

MICHAEL: My daughter is still living off the fact that I’m in New Moon. Now that I’m in Alice in Wonderland as well, it’s just gone stratospheric. At school, I’m treated like royalty now. But, everyone is convinced that I have red eyes because that’s two characters now with them.

Q: Have you ever dreamed the impossible, in your own life?

MICHAEL: If I had only ever done what I believed was possible, I probably never would have left my bedroom. I am, by nature, quite an anxious, fearful person, I’ve realized. Just to go out into the world can be quite a scary thing. And so, if I was left to my own devices, I probably wouldn’t do anything. I’ve learned, over time, that you’re only limited by your own beliefs about what’s possible, and they can be quite narrow. I’ve now given myself a rule, which is that I can’t say no to anything, if the reason why I want to say no is because it’s scary. I can say no for other things. And, that has led me to do incredibly frightening things that were very fulfilling afterwards, and I would never have believed that was possible.

Q: Helena, you seem to go seamlessly between playing a beautiful sex symbol to a frightening villain, do you gravitate toward one type more than the other?

HELENA: Ah, this is the frightening sex symbol one, I guess. Somebody did actually propose to me in the lift today because in the light they found me attractive with a big head. No, you know what? Because I’m older, I only get villains. Look, whatever is well written and has somebody behind the camera that knows what they’re doing and is a really good storyteller. You know what was good actually is he did apply it to my waist. Did anyone notice that? Because they go on about my head, but my waist is digitalized. He told me that right at the beginning. He said, “Don’t worry. You’re going to have it obviously. Don’t go for the full pull-in with the corset every morning.” And so, I didn’t. And then, halfway through, he said, “You know, the waist is going to cost too much.” So then, halfway through, suddenly I went for the pull and then luckily at the end somebody just told me “No, we did. We could do the waist.”

Alice in Wonderland opens in theaters on March 5th.

In the ensemble movie, Anne plays an office assistant who moonlights as a phone sex operator.

“I actually know someone who was an assistant, as my character is in the movie, and did moonlight as a phone sex operator, so I asked her a lot of questions,” said the Devil Wears Prada star.

“I said, ‘Well I think my character is pretty smart so I think she’ll be the fetish girl.’ So then I started researching about fetishes, and oh my God. There was (sic) so many!

It was widely believed that Garry Marshall's new ensemble romantic comedy Valentine's Day would top the four-day Presidents' Day weekend, but the movie still surprised, earning an estimated $66.9 million from 3,665 theaters for an average of $18,241 per theater. The New Line/Warner Bros. release, made for about $52 million, set a new record for the holiday weekend, surpassing 2007's Ghost Rider, which opened to $52 million over the four days. Valentine's Day's big cast includes Jessica Alba, Kathy Bates, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey, Hector Elizondo, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez, Shirley MacLaine, Emma Roberts, Julia Roberts and Taylor Swift. Anne Hathaway has revealed she'd like to work in TV.

The Tinseltown starlet - who received an Oscar nod for her role in Rachel Getting Married - fancies giving it a go on the small screen.

"I just go where the work is good and where the offers are for good work, so if someone were to offer me something wonderful, I would love it," she said.

Anne, who stars in Valentine's Day with Jessica Alba, Taylor Lautner and Julia Roberts, has been inspired by fellow thespian Claire Danes, who portrayed autistic scientist Temple Grandin in a TV biopic.

"I love what Claire Danes did with Temple Grandin," she added.

"I think we should probably adopt the British system where there is more of a symbiosis between theatre, film and television and let the jobs go around. But I just wish there were more jobs for more good actors."

The 27-year-old also revealed she is a fan of Glee and reality show Jersey Shore.

"I relate way too much to the character of Rachel and I love the character of Kurt. It's just fun, musical theatre is the best," she said of Glee.

She added: "And I am obsessed with Jersey Shore, obsessed."

But according to her, all she sees is her "weird features." In a new interview for the March issue of InStyle magazine, the 26-year-old shares her thoughts on looks and the endless pressure of Hollywood.

Still, the star of the new film Valentine's Day doesn't let her minor insecurities get her down. In fact, she tells InStyle that at the end of the day, she is happy to be herself, just the way she is.

“I think I’ve got really weird features," she says. "I have very large features on a very small head. But, you know, I’m not going to beat myself up… I look like myself, and I think at the end of the day, as nice as pretty is, authenticity is more important."

Hathaway Ditches Catholic Church for Gay Brother

Actress Anne Hathaway, known for her roles in The Princess Diaries, and The Devil Wears Prada, appears on the cover of the latest issue of British GQ magazine scantily clad in lingerie. And an in-depth interview inside the magazine reveals that Hathaway and her entire family left the Catholic Church, after her older brother announced that he was gay. Hathaway was not about to continue worshiping at a church that does not accept homosexuality.

Hathaway told GQ that she and her family converted to Episcopalians after her older brother came out:

“The whole family converted to Episcopalianism after my elder brother came out,” she said. “Why should I support an organization that has a limited view of my beloved brother?”

Although Hathaway says she doesn’t yet feel completely at home in the Episcopalian Church, she is working on it:

“So I’m … nothing [no denomination]. F**k it, I’m forming. I’m a work in progress,” said Hathaway.

Anne Hathaway was originally supposed to play Alice in Alice in Wonderland.

The 27-year-old star claimed directors wanted her to play the lead character, but she did not feel ready for the role.

She said: "The studio had the Alice script a long time ago and I was approached back then for the part of Alice. I considered it, but felt, what with The Princess Diaries, that I had been there, done that sort of pretty-girl-in-a-fairy-dress role.

"I told the studio, however, that if they find a director eventually, that I would be interested at a later date in playing the White Queen."

However, she admitted Tim Burton, who took on the directorial job, didn't want her in the role.

She told GQ: "When Tim came on board he had the cast he wanted and, of course, that didn't include me.

"I talked on the phone to Tim and he really liked my take. I wanted the Queen to be a cross between Debbie Harry, Greta Garbo, David Bowie, with a little bit of the work of Dan Flavin throwin in for good measure. A sort of psychotic bunny rabbit."

Anne Hathaway is no Angelina Jolie. The big difference? She's non-threatening. Or at least she is from your seat at the local multiplex. You see, women love Anne Hathaway. Ask any woman within reach. Ask a friend. Ask the pretty waitress in Scott's. Ask your mother; your sister; your grandmother. See, told you - they simply adore her. Can you ever imagine your girlfriend calling out (as mine did), "Tell her that I love her!" as you head off to catch a plane to go and have lunch with, say, Miss Jolie? I very much doubt it. Well, if Anne Hathaway - 27, from the quiet, affluent suburb of Millburn, New Jersey - is so prim, so naive, so wide-eyed and so innocent, then what on God's earth is she doing sitting opposite me, mid-way through a long, hot, lazy lunch in Los Angeles, flashing her hazel eyes while gently tonguing, yes, tonguing, the back of her china-white palm like a tip-hungry stripper at Le Crazy Horse? It's an act that's head-swimmingly discombobulating. The actress' supposed façade of niceness has been pulled back - just for a split second - to reveal something far, far wilder. For Anne it's her very own SuBo moment.

"We were talking about kissing," I offer clumsily, shattering the crackling sexual menace in a voice that, on hearing the words aloud, suddenly sounds about as come-hither as a car's sat-nav command. Anne, perhaps sensing my inability to form a proper sentence, takes the lead: "You have to leave your mouth open a little bit..." she purrs, making me squirm into uncharted levels of prudishness, closing her eyes and smudging her plump red lips against her own left hand, which she's holding tenderly with her right as she might the face of a co-star. "Open up," Anne suggests breathlessly as the earth seems to spin ever so slightly faster on its axis. "More, more, ever so lightly... otherwise you're going to be getting smooshy," she advises. "Now... slow it down... just a little bit..."

Sadly, here endeth the lesson on "How To Screen Kiss Successfully With Anne Hathaway". I come round, somewhat sheepishly, my cheeks flushed and my eyes glazed. "If you're both unattached and you get along, of course kissing in a movie is fun," she tells me. "But you can never get truly deep down and into it. Well, I can't. Jennifer Garner - now that girl can movie kiss. I gotta say that girl can really give it some up there..."

Anne Hathaway takes the March cover of the UK edition of GQ, the cover is well - wowzas! The issue hits stands this Friday.

When the Valentine's Day star, 27, shares the different types of on-screen kisses with the U.K. edition of GQ magazine, she laments that "full-on movie kissing" isn't one of her strong suits.

"It's a totally different experience," she says of the forceful kiss. "But really you have to be Angelina Jolie to pull that off and still look good. I don't know if you've noticed, but I ain't no Angie."

She does dispel some tips on what she calls "pretty movie kissing," and uses the back of her left hand as the lucky recipient.

"You have to leave your mouth open a little bit," she tells the magazine's March issue (out Friday). "Open up. More, more, ever so lightly… Otherwise you're going to be getting smoothy. Now, slow it down ... just a little bit."

With that skill, it's a wonder the actress -- who has been dating actor Adam Shulman since 2008 -- hasn't gotten carried away on set.

"If you're both unattached and you get along, of course kissing in a movie is fun," she says. "But you can never get truly deep down and into it. Well, I can't. Jennifer Garner -- now that girl can movie kiss!"

"Valentine's Day" Clip

MTV has released the first Valentine's Day clip to feature Anne and Topher Grace.

The clip shows the two enduring a Valentine's date that proves to be a little much for their two-week-old relationship. They're crammed into seats on a long table, elbow-to-elbow with other couples as their waiter offers them the four-course "Sweethearts" menu or the eight-course "Eternal Love" menu, then doesn't even laugh when Topher's character jokes about possibly getting a shorter menu for people with shorter relationships.

The couple on one side is making out and the couple on the other side is fighting because the guy hits on Anne — not the ideal situation for two people who barely know each other. Then again, they're kind of asking for it — going on a Valentine's Day date is a little high-pressure for a burgeoning relationship, no mater how promising!

Q: Is this an adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s books?
A: This is Alice in Wonderland 10 years later. The story isn’t the same. And in re-reading the book in preparation for the film, I noticed that a lot of it is Alice trying to figure out who she isn’t by process of elimination. She knows that she isn’t all the things that people are saying that she is, and so, by going through all of them, she gets a better idea of what she is. And in the Tim Burton Alice In Wonderland, Alice is trying to name who she is without using the process of elimination in a similar way. There’s a great line in it, where someone says, “You seem like Alice, but you’ve lost your muchness.” That’s my favorite line. So I think if the book is about Alice exploring her imagination, this one is about Alice finding her soul.

Q: Why have his books been enjoyed for generations?
A: In my opinion, what makes a great book is something that is universally specific. I didn’t read the “Alice” books when I was a child. I read them when I was in college. I was really into Nabokov, and apparently, he was really into Lewis Carroll, so I thought it was a good idea. So I read it from the perspective of a young woman becoming a woman—and I really related to it, the idea that you’re never the right size, that you could drink something to make you feel smaller, or eat something to make you feel bigger. I remember that it just appealed to me because I understood it. On the surface, it’s kind of light and fantastical, but it actually does play into a lot of deep, psychological fears we have—inadequacies that we feel we have, insecurities, the way we relate to the world around us. And in Wonderland, the world is hyper-emotional. It doesn’t make sense. People don’t make logical, emotional sense, and people feel things very, very grandly, and it’s just full of contrarians. So then, you have this young girl—who’s quite sensible, especially for a young girl—navigating her way through it. Sometimes, you feel like you’re the supporting cast of characters, the Wonderland crew, and then other times, you feel like you’re Alice. Like I said, when something is that universally specific—universal enough that it’s just a great, entertaining story, but specific enough that you can find yourself in it and relate to it at different points in your life—I think that could possibly explain why people keep going back to it.

Q: Why are Carroll’s characters such great fodder for film?
A: One of the reasons why Lewis Carroll’s characters work so well in cinema is because they’re wildly imaginative and there’s no one way to interpret them. Because Lewis Carroll played around with words and concepts, and because the characters appeal to the imagination, I feel there are as many interpretations as there are imaginations in the world. It depends on what your take is.

Q: And why are the characters also great for a Tim Burton movie?
A: One of the reasons why Alice In Wonderland and Tim are such a great match is because nothing is exactly as it seems in Wonderland. Nothing is entirely good or entirely bad. There’s a mixture of life and texture and intention, and I think that’s something with which Tim is really comfortable. And if you look throughout his filmography, nothing is ever what it appears to be or should be. So, I think in that sense, living in the questions, the ambiguity, but also the specificity of the world—these are things in which Tim excels as filmmaker. I believe the filmmaker and the subject matter complement each other really beautifully in this film.

Q: Describe the character you play.
A: I play the White Queen. When I was trying to work her out, I kept saying to myself, ‘She is a punk-rock, vegan pacifist.’ So I listened to a lot of Blondie, I watched a lot of Greta Garbo movies, and I looked at a lot of the artwork of Dan Flavin. Then a little bit of Norma Desmond got thrown in there, too. And she just kind of emerged. And I really like her. When I first came onboard the project, Tim talked a lot about the relationship between the sisters, and that really opened the character up to me a lot. She comes from the same gene pool as the Red Queen. She really likes the dark side, but she’s so scared of going too far into it that she’s made everything appear very light and happy. But she’s living in that place out of fear that she won’t be able to control herself. There’s a lot to play around in. It was awesome. I had so much fun.

Q: Why did you want to be in this film and play this role?
A: I’m just going to be a gushy fan for a second. I love Tim Burton—he’s one of my all-time favorite filmmakers. For as long as he’s been making films, I’ve been going to them opening weekend. And I watch them again and again on DVD. I love his aesthetic. I love his ability to pace as a filmmaker, his comfort with things that are kind of odd—he also finds a way to ground them. I think it’s very unusual to find a filmmaker who isn’t trying to be different for the sake of being different, to show you something you’ve never seen, but is actually yearning to stretch the limits of his imagination. So everything Tim does comes from a very pure place. And I think that’s why his movies, in spite of the sometimes off-beat subject matter, have such heart. I love that. “Alice” itself is such a classic, amazing story, and it has been told so many times—but when I heard the combination Tim Burton/Alice In Wonderland, I knew it was going to be a very specific, very wonderful adventure. I love my character. I love that she seems to be the voice of reason—you’d think that she would be the good queen. But she didn’t have to be. I really had a lot of fun playing around with this idea, that what’s good in Wonderland is not necessarily good in the real world.

Q: Describe what she does with her hands, and the way that she walks.
A: That was absolutely derivative from the costume because, [costume designer] Colleen Atwood, who’s just such a genius, made this dress that has so much detail to it, that’s so complex, but it doesn’t look at all heavy. It looks like if you didn’t attach a weight to it, that it would float up into the air and spin around. And I noticed the way the dress moved when I was in it. It was never my intention to create a perfect light. I just wanted her to arrive in certain places, and in my head I just thought, the way she walks, she occasionally bumps into things and doesn’t know how she got there. And she’s a little dopey and kind of ditzy, but at the same time, very clued in. And so, the walk just happened. I took very, very fast footsteps, and I noticed the more languid I could make my arms, the more it looked like I was gliding. And that’s when the Norma Desmond thing happened. I remember being really nervous about the first take. And I did it and Tim smiled, so it was nice. That’s the feeling on set. ‘Show me your imagination. Show me how far you can take this.’ And I always had absolute trust that if it went too far, Tim would pull it back. He actually has a story in his head that he wants to tell. So usually what would happen, it would be some kind of combination of straightforward story and imaginary weirdness. And it was just nice the way it all fit together.

Q: What’s going on with the White Queen when we first meet her?
A: The White Queen has had her crown taken from her, and she’s basically powerless to stop her sister’s reign of tyranny. Her sister is the Red Queen. And so, she is waiting. She’s basically taken a vow of non-violence that she cannot break, and she’s waiting for her champion to arrive to help her reclaim her throne—the citizens of Underland would like to see that happen. They want to see her restored to power, because she’s kind.

Q: What is the relationship between the White Queen and the Red Queen?
A: The relationship between the White Queen and the Red Queen is not good. They are sisters, but I don’t think it was ever particularly good. I just think that my character would never admit that she doesn’t like her sister. I think she tries to make excuses for her. She tries to find little things to love about her, but she really doesn’t that much. I think, from her perspective, if the Red Queen were just a bit nicer to her—allow the possibility that they could be friends, allow the room for love—that she would be willing to give over to it. But the Red Queen just rubs her the wrong way. They’re not buddies—they’re just related.

Q: Who plays the Red Queen?
A: Helena Bonham Carter, in addition to being one of the most brilliant women I’ve ever had the pleasure to talk to, is so much fun as the Red Queen. She has so much energy that she gives to it. And her characterization is so lovely and demanding, not child-like but childish, and selfish and impossible to please. Then, at other times, she’s really vulnerable and sad, because this person is going to be lonely forever, because she’s just so darn selfish. She’s endlessly entertaining in the role. Her look and the dedication that it takes—three, four hours to get into that hair and makeup.

Q: Talk about the actor who plays The Mad Hatter.
A: The actor who plays the Mad Hatter, Johnny Depp—I have so much fun watching him in all of his movies as an audience member, so to actually get to watch him perform live is such a treat. He’s so inventive—and he’s kind, just a very kind, warm man. But to actually watch him in his element, in his zone, just acting, it’s a thrill. I want him to do theater so that everyone else can get in on it. He’s very powerful. I just felt very privileged to get to watch him.

Q: What does Mia Wasikowska bring to her role?
A: Mia Wasikowska is an absolute delight of a young woman. She’s so playful and natural and down-to-earth—but she also has this ethereal quality to her, she feels timeless. What she brings to Alice is very, very difficult to pull off. Every time I do a scene with her, I’m just amazed at what she’s doing with it and that a young actress can bring so much gravity to this world. It’s somewhat eerie, the way she’s able to communicate feeling and where Alice is at that moment. It was lovely to work with her, just to get to observe that.

Q: What is your impression about how this film is being made?
A: I took a very Zen approach to filmmaking on this one. It sounds silly, but I had no idea what was going on. I walked in and it was like being in a neon-green terrarium--green on all sides, and tons of empty space. Tim knew what was going on—he was the one that is in control of it. All I needed to do was hit my mark and say my lines, and wait for Tim to tell me that we’re ready to move on. And that was my approach to it. I didn’t put any other pressure on myself. I just showed up and acted.

Q: What are you wearing in this movie?
A: I’m wearing a dress designed by Colleen Atwood. It’s grand and the most fragile dress I’ve ever worn in my life. I love it so much. It’s beautiful. If you ever had a dream of being any kind of fairy princess, this is the dress you would wear. I love the idea that it’s this idealized, fairy-tale Queen, but it is in a Tim Burton movie, so there’s darkness mixed up with it as well.

Q: What do audiences have to look forward to with this film?
A: Because the world of this film begins and ends in the imagination of Tim Burton, you’re not seeing a movie that’s been shot on locations that you’ve seen a million times. Because this world has no rules, you’re seeing so many different and separate brushstrokes and colors and characterizations somehow getting combined through Tim. And what I think you’re getting is an absolute exploration of the imagination. I think that’s the essence of the book, and I think that’s the spirit Tim’s brought to the film. Everybody on the film was so clever, so creative, so imaginative—and I think that’s what the film is about—how can we tell a story that honors the imagination in the most imaginative way humanly possible? And that’s such a fantastic idea.

The press conference will be held at 5:30 a.m. Los Angeles time at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills and aired live, a streaming video should be available online. She is the Hollywood superstar who has instant chemistry on screen – but Anne Hathaway has admitted she actually prefers physics.

The actress is obsessed with the subject and is ‘dying for someone to explain quarks [fundamental matter particles]’ to her.

Miss Hathaway, 27, who starred in The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada, spends her spare time reading physics textbooks rather than fashion pages.

She said: ‘I’m interested in elementary particles. What I like thinking about is how time and space exist in the universe and how we understand it.

‘Any spare time I have, I bury my head in a physics textbook.

‘What I also think is fascinating is that the elements at the atomic and subatomic level make up everything. You, me, the buildings, our souls, our minds.’

Miss Hathaway admitted in an interview with GQ magazine she still had a lot to learn about physics: ‘Remember, I’m living in LA so I’m interested in energies and vibes.

‘Look, it’s not a very polished argument but I’m learning. I’m reading a lot about Einstein. I like theories. I want to understand string theory. I’m dying for someone to explain quarks to me!’

The actress broke into the big time at the age of 18 when she starred alongside Julie Andrews in The Princess Diaries. ‘I thought I knew everything,’ she said.

‘I was hopelessly fat-headed at the time. It was a heady thing so young, and the fame got to me.’

She also admitted she did not enjoy doing nude scenes in the 2005 movie Havoc. ‘I was terrified and sick to my stomach,’ she said.

‘But I eventually saw the movie – and although I don’t like the shot, the director was right.

‘It was necessary to convey the fact that this girl I was playing had no respect for her body, or her own sexual identity.’

Today Anne Hathaway was honored in Cambridge, Mass., as Hasty Pudding's Woman of the Year (previously reported.) This honor is traditionally presented to the deserving celeb by a host of Harvard's finest gents.

Upon her arrival at the John Harvard Statue Anne playfully greeted it with: “Hi, dude.” Hathaway was treated to a parade in her honor around Harvard Square. The 27-year-old actress and two of her dolled-up escorts were ferried down Massachusetts Avenue in a red Bentley.

Later that afternoon, the actress, fresh from the snowy parade of Harvard Square with the Hasty crew, donned sequins and serious heels for her roast inside the New College Theatre, where she endured the incessant teasing of hosts Clifford Murray ’10 and Derek Mueller ’10 and a Brokeback Mountain skit.

Poking fun at her turns in the film The Princess Diaries and its sequel, Murray and Mueller called her “the second most famous Anne to keep a diary.” Hathaway never once lost composure, however, coolly shooting back, “Love that Anne Frank line.”

Not even Princess Diaries co-star Julie Andrews could faze her. “What are a few of your favorite things?” sang an ersatz Andrews, played by Walter Klyce ’10.

“A few of my favorite things, besides Harvard … ” Hathaway replied, before launching into song with, “Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens …”

“Yes, that would be the correct answer for me,” Klyce shot back. “But I think you meant to say, ‘Appearing topless in movies.’”

“I get a little overeager and excited about things,” explained Hathaway, who didn’t trust herself enough to wing an acceptance speech. So she read a poem she’d penned herself. “I feel warm and gooey inside,” read Hathaway, “joyous with my reddened backside, that your roast smacked upside. My rump is swollen with pride.”

Hathaway’s Man of the Year counterpart Justin Timberlake will be at Harvard on Feb. 5.

Hathaway to Announce Oscar Noms

Nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards® will be announced on Tuesday, February 2, by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Tom Sherak and Oscar-nominated actress and Academy member Anne Hathaway.

Sherak and Hathaway will unveil the nominations in 10 of the 24 categories at a 5:30 a.m. news conference at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where hundreds of media representatives from around the world will be gathered. Nominations information for all categories will be distributed simultaneously to news media in attendance and via the Internet on the official Academy Awards Web site, www.oscar.com.

Last year Hathaway received her first Oscar nomination for her leading role in Rachel Getting Married. She first came to national attention in the 2006 sleeper hit The Devil Wears Prada opposite Meryl Streep. Anne Hathaway was pretty in Paris yesterday at Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture. The actress showed her support for designer Giorgio Armani at his Armani Prive fashion show. Anne who was dressed in a sparkly silver ensemble looked impressed from the front row.

Anne told reporters that she had her eye on "about seven" looks from Giorgio’s newest collection.

“I have a few events in mind, and if Mr. Armani would be generous enough, I’d love to wear them,” she said.

Anne Hathaway The Singer

In addition to being a talented actress, Anne Hathaway is also a classically trained soprano. From 1998-1999 she performed with the All-Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus at Carnegie Hall. When at the age of sixteen, three days after her 1999 performance at Carnegie Hall, she was cast in the short-lived Fox television series Get Real. Anne has stated she prefers performing on stage than to to film.

As for her some of her singing history, last year Anne performed at the 2009 Academy Awards with Hugh Jackman. She has three tracks on the Ella Enchanted soundtrack and she has a song from Hoodwinked! which was a voice role for her. She briefly sang "How do you want it?" by Tupac in Havoc, although it's probably not her finest hour (or film.) She also appeared on Saturday Night Live on October 4, 2008 and sang in two numbers; one which she was a very funny Mary Poppins.

Hathaway History (In Memoriam of Heath Ledger)

On January 22, 2008, Anne Hathaway's Brokeback Mountain co-star and friend Heath Ledger, passed away all too soon at the age of 28. He left behind a daughter with Michelle Williams who also starred opposite them in Brokeback.

Heath Ledger (1979-2008) a native of Australia first found a major acting break on the 97' Aussie soap Home and Away (which also launched careers for actresses like Isla Fisher and Isabel Lucas). His major break and what ultimately solidified him as Hollywood's newest heartthrob came with the feel good film 10 Things I Hate About You opposite Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. A few films later and Heath gained more notoriety this time proving he actually had acting chops with 2000's The Patriot, where he played Mel Gibson's son. But perhaps the film which first showcased Heath's range came in the independent Monster's Ball which featured Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry (who won an Academy Award for her portrayal of a grief stricken mother.)

Refusing to coast on his "it boy" status, Ledger begin carving a strong career for himself with a wide array of characters. However in 2005 one role changed his career forever; Ennis Del Mar.

Up until 2005, Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain was known only by the phrase "the gay cowboy movie." That was until however audiences got to see it. Critics and moviegoers alike fell for the sweeping and heartbreaking romance. Ledger played Ennis, Jake Gyllenhaal was Jack Twist, Michelle Williams (who Ledger ultimately found real life love with at the time) was his on screen wife Alma and Hathaway was a rodeo queen by the name of Lureen Newsome. She would ultimately marry Gyllenhaal's character in the film.

The film opened at The Venice Film Festival and went on to win countless awards and even more nominations, including many for Heath himself. The movie received Best Cast nominations which Hathaway shared in at The Gotham Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

At the 2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards, only days after his death, winner Daniel Day Lewis took a moment and honored Heath during his acceptance speech. Whilst among his fellow actors her shed light on some of Heath's performances rather than the traditional thanks. Perhaps his words offer good insight to Heath Ledger as actor best; "...He was unique, he was perfect."

In the few years that followed Brokeback, Heath had roles in I'm Not There, Casanova and one of my personal favorites Candy.

2008 would bring him his biggest project to date. The 185 million dollar budget epic The Dark Knight. Unfortunately when a few years ago the news broke that Heath had passed away due to an accidental drug overdose. Released about 6 months after his passing, The Dark Knight shattered box office records and currently remains the fifth highest grossing motion picture of all time. For his role as The Joker which truly stole the show, He went on to win a posthumous Golden Globe, SAG and Academy Award (His family accepted on his behalf.)

Finally in 2009, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus ; Ledger's final film, was released into theatres.

I'm sure none of this is news to anyone, however Heath was one of my very favorite actors I'd only was just discovering years before his death. I was heartbroken by the loss of him and still am to this day. No, I never knew him personally, but like many, his performances touched my soul and not many actors can do that for you.

Although gone, Heath Ledger will never be forgotten. His life was cut short and perhaps we will never know the career greatness he might have had given he lived longer. However the most tragic in all of this is the loss to his family and his daughter. But his legacy will live forever in the minds and hearts of many.

"Valentine's Day" Soundtrack

The first single from the Valentine's Day soundtrack, Taylor Swift's "Today Was a Fairytale," dropped on Tuesday, weeks before the movie's February 12 opening. The song first appeared in late December in a teaser trailer for the hotly anticipated rom-com.

In the sugary pop-country song, Swift echoes previous hits "You Belong With Me" and "Lovestory" as she describes her love interest's charming qualities. The 20-year-old Grammy nominee sings, "You were the prince/ I used to be the damsel in distress/ You took me by the hand/ And you picked me up at 6/ Today was a fairytale."

Swift, who appears in the film alongside rumored ex Taylor Lautner, is contributing another song, "Jump Then Fall," on the soundtrack, due out February 9. The disc also includes tracks by Leighton Meester and Robin Thicke, Amy Winehouse and Maroon 5. The movie itself is a who's who of Hollywood, starring Julia Roberts, Emma Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Patrick Dempsey, Jennifer Garner, Queen Latifah and more.

Anne On Her Size & Award Season Advice

The Devil Wears Prada star says she has often sent back designer dresses to be altered so they fit her for the red carpet.

“If designers want to dress me then I am at the larger end of the Hollywood scale so they have to be fine with that,” she said.

“And I think what some designers do is if a dress doesn’t fit you because it’s been fitted to a size zero model they will remake the dress for you.”

Anne, 27, recently urged her showbiz peers to enjoy “every second” of the awards season.

Anne Hathaway Offers Advice For Awards Season

Hathaway has urged her peers to enjoy “every second” of the awards season.

The star picked up some tips from her time spent as a Best Actress nominee at last year’s Oscars for her movie Rachel Getting Married and now she is telling her showbiz pals to learn from her and others’ mistakes.

“I don’t know how qualified I am to give any advice seeing as I have barely white-knuckled the award season myself. But I would just say enjoy every second,” she says. “The only regrets that I have were the minutes that I was too nervous to take everything in. Oh, and don’t drink too much!”

Hathaway, 27, recently revealed that she loves attending showbiz parties.

“It always feel like I’m going off to prom,” she has said. “I feel like my inner eight-year-old is at the best party of her life. Being an actor is what I have dreamed of my whole life.”

Retrospective (Past Golden Globes Ceremonies)

Yesterday was the 67th Annual Golden Globes Awards and while Anne was not in attendance I wanted to reflect back on previous years where Anne did go.

Golden Globes 2009

Last year she was nominated of course for Rachel Getting Married. Of her nomination Anne told several media outlets:

"I got off the phone with him and called my parents. They were hopping around so happy, just so effusive and lovely. And I felt so bad, they were giving such great advice for how to handle it and I was half-asleep!

"I'd had a friend stay over because I needed someone to celebrate with or kind of cry with in the morning.

"We made eggs and just kind of danced around in my kitchen. It was kind of perfect, simple and very sweet.

Although she lost the award to the divine Kate Winslet she looked marvelous whist doing so!

Anne dawned a royal blue Armani Prive gown embroidered with Swarovski crystals for a stuctured look at the top, while the bottom was free-flowing. Her red carpet look was finished off jewels by Cleef & Arpels (including vintage-esque earrings) and a touch of Chanel Beaute perfume. She was my third pic for best dressed that evening, she looked exquisite. Her hair was loosely pulled into a bun which made the look all the more sophisticated. Her mom was her date for the big night.

Golden Globes 2006

Coming of the huge critical success of Brokeback Mountain, Anne and her co-stars attended a ton of award shows that year. At the Globes, Anne wore a more youthful but still very elegant one shouldered dress. The knee length with with a little flare and shimmery crystals complimented the navy blue ensemble. Hathaway opted for silver accessories in the form of a clutch, heels, and earrings. Her hair was in a delicate updo with an array of tiny braids. Make-up was left light and complimented her pale skin, Anne played up the lips with bold red lipstick and her eyes were dusted in a white shimmer powder. Finally a coat of blue (yes blue!) mascara was added to make her stunning dough eyes pop even more!

Brokeback was awarded Best Director, Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. Original score and the supporting actor nominees Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams did not win. Best Actor was awarded to Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote) while Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener) nabbed Supporting Actress. Memoirs of a Geisha took home Best Score.

Golden Globes 2004

Anne made an appearance at the 2004 After Parties with her Nicholas Nickleby co-star Charlie Hunnam. Her look was a black strapless cocktail dress. Her hair was in curls, pulled into an up-do. Oh so cute!

The 60th Golden Globe Awards marked Annie's first appearance at the awards - ever! In fact her look is still to this day my favorite of her Golden Globe's past. Sure her style has definitely evolved as her star rose and more designers have since become aware of her. But so far nothing has topped this memorable look for me! Anne was just 20 years old at the time and had only really been seen in Nicholas Nickleby, The Other Side of Heaven and The Princess Diaries so she was still a newbie. But did she ever make an entrance! I recall freaking out as I saw Anne walk the red carpet that year (I also freaked out in another manor when I saw that horrid Lara Flynn Boyle ballerina dress - yes that one.) Anne wore a flowy dress with the shades of pinks and green dyed effect. The bust featured a beaded overlay and on her shoulder was a flower accent. A modest, yet thigh high split which went under the bust also had another flower. The dress had a magenta layer flowing underneath. The look was completed with gold jewelry and shoes and finally pink clutch. So young and fresh, but stunningly appropriate as well!

Anne Hathaway Shows Us Her Wild Side
You won't catch her falling out of a limo sans undies — but she'll gladly go topless if the role calls for it. Mold-breaking Anne Hathaway does Hollywood her way.

It's a steep, winding climb through the Hollywood Hills to the horseshoe-shaped ranch house where Anne Hathaway is staying. Neat shrubbery frames the front door; there's a black Range Rover out front. It's on Blue Jay Way, the namesake of the song George Harrison wrote in 1967 when he was staying in this very house. I press the buzzer, and an affable guy in a red hoodie answers the door. This is Hathaway's big brother, Michael, who's staying with her — same lush features, less contrast (lighter hair, darker skin).

Inside, the place has a clinical spareness to it, a West Elm vibe typical of rentals. It's been Hathaway's home base while she makes the movie version of the campy Cold War spy series Get Smart with Steve Carell. And as I gaze upon a carefully prepared spread — guacamole, chips, cucumber slices with Brie on top, a pitcher of water — laid out at one end of a massive, medieval-looking table, I hear the pitter-patter of bare feet rushing up behind me on the hardwood floor. "Hi, I'm Annie," Hathaway says, sticking her hand out for a shake.

Hathaway is quick to flash that enveloping smile — at 24, she's too young to be jaded about having to do interviews. She's opted for a strategically casual outfit: oversize, black V-neck sweater with a black tank underneath and skinny jeans that aren't intensely skinny — an American Eagle girl passing as American Apparel. All in all, she's squarely on trend, save for the coral-pink polish on her fingers and toes — no doubt chosen for her role as the midcentury knockout Agent 99.

Hathaway gives me a tour of the place, pointing out the giant cross that doubles as the living room's ceiling light. When she flips a switch, it glows neon yellow and pink. "Isn't that freaky?" she says, sounding delighted — apparently the owner of the house has a thing for religio-kitsch. Later, she'll show me a Virgin Mary lawn ornament and a 7-foot cross that she stashed in the garage. "The first thing I did when I moved in," she says, swinging the door shut dramatically.

"The place is kind of strange, but it's a great party house," Hathaway tells me, adding that she and her brother are hosting a Moroccan-themed bash next week. When we reach the master bathroom, she points out an errant nunchuck lying on the ledge of the tub. "I was trying to impress my friend the other night with my nunchuck aim," she says, laughing. "I was a little tipsy."

Tipsy? What a welcome whiff of mischief. After all, it isn't so easy picturing Hathaway flinging weapons under the influence, given how indelibly . . . princessy she is. She got her start at 17 as an awkward high schooler who became a princess alongside Julie Andrews in Disney's surprise hit The Princess Diaries ("If you don't like Julie Andrews, there's something wrong with you," she says), which she followed up with two more tiara flicks: Ella Enchanted and The Princess Diaries 2. Spot-on casting: Her looks were perfect for the ugly-duckling-turned-swan journey — wide eyes and inflated lips she hadn't quite grown into yet that could easily morph from goofy to regal over the course of a movie. Staying on theme in last summer's The Devil Wears Prada, she made the transition from dumpy plaid skirts to sleek Chanel seem entirely plausible.

Even though Hathaway with her royal résumé and good-girl reputation (her godmother calls when she curses in print) — is the anti-Lohan, she wants you to know she's no prude. "I love Peaches," she says. Yes, the girl who rode a Razor scooter to high school in her first film admires an artist with a CD titled Fatherfucker "When people are all, 'Do you think you have a squeaky-clean image?' I'm like, 'Could a squeaky-clean girl know all the lyrics to 'Teaches of Peaches'? I mean, my favorite song is called 'Fuck the Pain Away.'" Her Prada costar Emily Blunt tells a story about trying to shoot a scene with Stanley Tucci when Hathaway actually mooned her off-camera. "We really had a blast," Blunt says. "I have never laughed so hard on a set."

Hathaway has no problem going topless on-camera, either, which she did in both Havoc and Brokeback Mountain. "I don't actively search for [movies] that I can get naked in," Hathaway says, perched on the mossy-hued, L-shaped couch in her living room (and I mean perched: She has excellent posture; her spine never comes in contact with the back of the couch). "It's not the most fun requirement of the job, but nor is it something that I would ever not do a job because of. It is what it is. Some people choose not to do it on moral grounds; I think that's a shoddy argument." Of course, there are limits. "I turned down another movie because it was going to show a vagina — not mine, but somebody else's. And I didn't believe that it was actually necessary to the story."

Suffice it to say, any glimpse we get of Hathaway's naughty bits will be on her own terms, not while falling out of a limo and caught on a camera phone. She's one of the few stars of her generation who managed to come out of adolescence unscathed and fully formed while the whole world watched. Blogs have never been consumed by the state of her virginity; there is nothing in the tabs about flings with ex-boy band members, tattoos, meltdowns, trips to rehab.

"Don't get me wrong," she says, gathering her shiny, thick hair in one hand and dropping it over her left shoulder. "I love to cut loose with my friends, but I don't do it to get attention. I can feel really satisfied by it without anyone watching."

Hathaway seems cool with her place in the fame firmament — young she may be, but she knows where she stands. "I'm not a walking one-woman drama show," she says. "I'm pretty bad entertainment — I'm not particularly well dressed, and I haven't graduated from college. I think you should like Natalie Portman a lot more," she says, letting loose a rich, musical laugh.

Hathaway's favorte adjective is "brilliant." During our conversation, she uses it no fewer than 23 times to describe phenomena like Hillary Clinton, Margaret Cho, half-corsets, "poets who also happen to be musicians," No Doubt, Stewie on Family Guy . . . (Steve Carell, however, she calls "wonderful": "I wanted to clone him and send him on a goodwill tour throughout the world, saying, 'This is what America can produce.'")

She's got that polished, older-than-her-years, Northeastern aura, having spent her childhood in Brooklyn before her attorney father and actor mother moved the family to suburban New Jersey. Acting wasn't a big stretch, considering her mother went on national tour with Les Misérables when Hathaway was 7. And though she wanted to audition for a role in the show, too, her parents wouldn't let her. The worry? That she'd "drink the monster juice," as they put it, and turn into a precocious brat. "They said, 'Look, if you really want to do this, you have to train, you have to go to classes.' My parents wanted to make sure I had a love of theater, and that was invaluable. Obviously I have to give myself credit, too — I was very driven."

At 13, she joined a local theater group, got an agent, and started doing commercials. During her senior year, she won a role on the short-lived TV series Get Real and moved to L.A. "I got to come home for the final two months of senior year when everybody was slacking off, and we got to do stupid things like, you know, steal people's lawn ornaments and redistribute them around the neighborhood," she laughs. Even Hathaway-the-Degenerate has a certain wholesomeness about her.

She went to Vassar for three semesters, then transferred to NYU. Following Ella and Havoc (her one straight-to-DVD flop), the chance to work with director Ang Lee beckoned — and suddenly the latte-sipping life of an undergrad lost all its luster. (Even now she gushes, "I told him if he ever needs an assistant, I will drop whatever project I am working on just to make him coffee.") After she had auditioned, Lee gave her the role of Jake Gyllenhaal's cowgirl wife in 2005's Brokeback Mountain.

"I had such a cool experience," she says. "I was like, Hells to the yeah. If this is possible once, it is worth striving for the rest of my life — to be a part of something that is so beautiful and smart, that is the best this medium can be."

That said, the first time she saw the film, at the Venice Film Festival, alongside Lee and costars Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, she almost didn't make it through. "I'm not in the movie until, like, 45 minutes into it, and I start to get sick to my stomach that I'm gonna be the one to fuck it up. So right before I come on-screen, I run outside, because I can't handle it."

Eventually, she calmed down, came back in, and watched without incident — until the last scene, when she burst into tears. "Didn't stop for an hour," she laughs. "And Kirsten Dunst, who was going out with Jake, was like two rows behind me, and [Jake's sister] Maggie Gyllenhaal was right behind me, and we were all crying so hard; my boyfriend offered Maggie his handkerchief, and she was sharing it with Kirsten. And I'm thinking, That's my boyfriend's — can I have my Kleenex that you bitches are using?" she says, her voice breaking into high-pitched hysterics.

Perhaps for the first time in her career thus far, Anne Hathaway is respected and rewarded as a serious actress contender by winning a Critics' Choice Award. Which ultimately followed with Golden Globe and Oscar nominations.

Yesterday evening was the 2010 Critic's Choice Awards and I thought in reflection we could have a late celebration of Anne Hathaway's victory last year with her powerhouse performance in Rachel Getting Married. Anne of course tied for Lead Actress with Meryl Streep (for her work in Doubt) - coincidentally this year Meryl tied again with Sandra Bullock's The Blind Side.

Hathaway was also nominated against actresses Kate Beckinsale (Nothing But the Truth), Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Angelina Jolie (Changeling) and Melissa Leo (Frozen River). Meryl was not in attendance last year so Anne shared the honor on her behalf. Rachel Getting Married was also nominated for Acting Ensemble, but lost to the cast of Milk.

Anne Hathaway’s outfit for the night was an asymmetrical Gianfranco Ferre black and white dress matched with Brian Atwood peep toe pumps. Anne herself said, when asked whose dress that was "It’s Gianfranco Ferre and I don’t know, I love it cause it’s pretty.. Ha-ha").

"Meryl is my idol, to win with my idol who I was nominated against is amazing. I'm so thrilled for her and I'm very thrilled for myself, too." Hathaway – winner for her role in Rachel Getting Married – Anne told People backstage at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium Thursday night.

"I thought maybe by the time I was 50 I would be in this kind of, I might have gotten here, and I kind of gave myself until 50 to get nominated for something. So for it to happen at 26 in almost half the amount of time I'm pretty thrilled!"

Yesterday in Beverly Hills, Anne attended a cocktail party for the film A Single Man which stars Julianne Moore and Colin Firth. The movie is nominated for 3 Golden Globes.

Hathaway to Be Saluted by Harvard

People reprots The Ivy League university Harvard will bestow its Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year award on Hathaway at a parade and ceremony January 28, organizers have announced.

The actresss, 27, was named to the honor by Harvard's Hasty Pudding Theatricals – the country's oldest undergraduate drama troupe – for her "contribution to entertainment."

Hathaway, whose other films include Brokeback Mountain, Becoming Jane and Rachel Getting Married, was chosen because of the variety of her roles on screen and on the stage, a spokesman for the group told the The Harvard Crimson student newspaper.

"That theater aspect really hit home for us, for the Pudding, and we're so excited for her to come," he said.

The group's man of the year recipient has yet to be revealed.

Last year, honorees Renée Zellweger and James Franco received golden pudding pots – to mark a tradition that began in 1795, when Harvard members of the club pledged to bring "a pot of hasty pudding" to each.
